Percussion pupil Charlie Shortt in BBC Young Musician of the year

EA Music student Charlie Shortt recently competed in the BBC Young Musician of the Year.

The young percussionist, who attends Royal School Armagh, made it to the televised auditions.

Charlie has been an active member of EA orchestras, band and ensembles since primary school and has made his way through the ranks. He currently plays in the South Ulster Youth Band, is a member of the Ulster Youth Orchestra and has recently been announced as co-leader of the percussion section in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.

During the summer Charlie performed in the Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC Proms series, in the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, and in the Saffron Hall in Essex with the NYOGB in what has been an extremely busy and rewarding year.

Charlie hopes to go on and study music at conservatoire level upon completion of his A-levels this year.
