North Down/Castlereagh Area String Orchestra

North Down/Castlereagh Area String Orchestra is an ensemble for string players from Grades 1-4 standard.

Students rehearse and perform a varied and challenging repertoire of music from many different styles and genres, including arrangements of baroque and classical masterpieces right through to popular music from the stage and screen.

This group rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 6.00pm – 7.30pm in Regent House School, Newtownards.

Showcase concerts take place in the iconic Ulster Hall and in the beautiful setting of The Assembly Buildings Conference Centre, Belfast.

In early 2021, over 150 children and young people joined OBE Online and worked with tutors from the Music Service’s Dundonald office watching tutorials, rehearsing online, and recording videos of newly learnt pieces. 

Over 700 videos were uploaded, and a 20 minute ‘virtual’ concert was created.
